A collaboration of furry wool felt art sculptures and witty comics! Nicole and Shellie join to bring you “Creature Comforts”. When we are scared, sad, or worried, there are comforting things we reach for. They can be a physical object, a visit to nature, or finding the funny side of a situation. Shellie has been working on life like needle felted animals. Many find comfort in a pet, or a visit to nature. Nicole has been working on a series of cartoons for her upcoming book, Well, Toodaloo, which is a collection of cartoons she has drawn based on situations she has found herself in with her mother who has moderate dementia. Nicole will present a collection from these cartoons. These cartoons are Nicole’s way of grieving for her mother who isn’t there anymore and soothing herself by finding the funny moments they share now. Creature Comforts as a small show will display two ways of finding comfort and soothing.

Nicole Estabrooks’ Artist Statement

I talk a lot. Ask anyone – and I’ll tell them to tell you the same thing. So why does an extroverted verbalist need another means of expression? Quite simply, because I believe art is intimate and find I’m more comfortable sharing my private thoughts visually.
Placing high value on sensuality, function, clean lines and honest portraits of humanity, my subject matter represents the things and places I want to visit again. Reflecting my thoughts and feelings, these pieces allow me to convey what I hold as important. They are monuments to moments.
