Additional information to help you decide if you want to join us:
For two days on Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14 from 10 am to 4 pm, we will host our fifth annual tour. Artists may choose either or both days (open for each artist to decide) and this will be listed in the brochure by days. If you want longer time it may be posted too. It is up to each artist whether they want to include another artist at their studio (young, emerging or friend).
Activity – each artist may
decide what kind of demo or activity they provide for visitors to watch (may
include stages of a process and discussion). A brief description as specific
times for the activity can be listed in the brochure as well, if provided and
appropriate. (We don’t intend you to demo for four hours straight, but work
around your visitors’ interest and time.)
An artist may also want to provide refreshments for their visitors but this is an option only.
Promotion/Signage – a
brochure will be made for the event. Each artist is responsible for getting
brochures out to their list of clients and for doing promotion and poster
distribution in their area.
RDAC will promote this event through local media and two newspapers, its website, Facebook page, and email list, several websites, and will distribute colour posters and brochures (which includes an artist guide and map) to area businesses as well as for artists own dispersal. Artists should be prepared to provide signage outside their own studios.
Artists and fees – there is no fee to participate for artists who are members of the Red Deer Arts Council as this is a benefit of membership. Non-member’s fee is $30.00 which will also give an automatic membership in the RDAC for the year. The fee for a student who is sharing a studio with another participating member artist is $15.00.
Prizes – as part of the
tour, we ask that each studio provide a small draw prize which may be an
experience, a gift certificate towards an art piece or a material item –
artists’ choice. Artists will handle the
draw at their own studio and inform the RDAC office of the winner. Artists
should arrange for winners to claim/pick up their prizes when winners are
Suggestion – if artists are hosting classes or events they may make ‘take-away’ items to give to the tour guests.
Ballot – RDAC will provide
ballots to each participating studio.
Ballots will inform contestants about the collection of personal
information and limit how it will be used. RDAC will collect all ballots to
coordinate names from previous years to fill out the email database. Participating artists will receive a copy of
the list which may be used for Open Studio Tour guests for following years of
Post event and Evaluations – written evaluations are due from all artists on Monday, June 22. We encourage you to do them so that we may share our experiences to make the planning for our next studio tour even better. Evaluations may be sent to Diana Anderson’s email – .
RDAC will host a post tour event for all participating artists to discuss the tour and evaluations, and have fun socializing. The date and location to be determined for some time after the tour.
