2019 Scholarship Award Recipients
Let's celebrate our honourees for 2019!
The Princess Margaret Scholarship for Post-Secondary Students is awarded to Holly Mayoh
This award goes to RDC Student Holly Mayoh is a full-time student and single mother to a 12 and 13 year old.She balances her family life and responsibilities while maintaining straight A’s.This award is adjudicated by the arts council but is a City of Red Deer award. Holly is in the second year of the Visual Arts Diploma Program and will be continuing her studies at Thompson Rivers University towards completion of her BFA.
One of her instructors said of her, “Holly is the most creative and hardworking student I have ever taught at Red Deer College in six years…. With her intense drive and passion, she will do great things.”
Holly will be using the funds toward a fine arts-infused travel experience to discover the masters in Italy, in conjunction with another travel scholarship received through the college, a once in a lifetime opportunity.

This scholarship is offered by the City of Red Deer and administrated by the Red Deer Arts Council on their behalf.
The Canada Centennial Scholarship for Post-Secondary Students is awarded to Jesse Drwiega
Jesse Drwiega is attending Sheridan College’s Bachelor of Musical Theatre Performance program in Oakville, Ontario. He will be entering his fourth year in the fall.
Instructor Suzanne Bennett said of him, "Not only is he hard working and talented, Jesse connects warmly as a person, and recognizes the value of each encounter.He brings a grounded sense of maturity and good humour to every pass of a scene or song…. He is a positive role model and a reliable leader and contributor. "
Jesse plans to use the funds toward his final year of studies as the intensive nature of his program does not allow for part-time work opportunities.
Jesse is still continuing his training and dance teaching in Toronto until later this summer, but his mother, Fay Duffy, accepted the award on his behalf.

The Canada Centennial Scholarship for Secondary Students is awarded to Ainsley Nivens
This year, the award goes to Ainsley Nivens, a ballet and contemporary dancer from Red Deer.Ainsley spent two years studying at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Professional Division and over twelve years of dedicated training – impressive for a 14-year old!She has been invited to join the Professional Training Program at Arts Umbrella in Vancouver and will use her funds towards her tuition costs next school year.
The Waskasoo Bluegrass Music Scholarship for Secondary Students is awarded to Harbour Lehocky
This year, the award goes to Harbour Lehocky, a violinist and pianist from Lacombe. Harbour is the eldest of seven children and she started playing violin at the age of six. She and her siblings are homeschooled, which helps accommodate their ongoing studies at Mount Royal University’s Program for Young Artists. She is a featured guest at the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra’s upcoming concert on June 8th, as winner of the 2018 RDSO Concerto Competition Class. She is looking forward to using these funds towards continuing her studies in Lacombe and at Mount Royal, but is also excited to take some classes from two highly respected violinists and instructors this summer while visiting the Czech Republic with her family.
